Menopause is a natural biological process that marks the end of a woman's reproductive years, typically occurring between the ages of 45 and 55. Despite its inevitability, menopause remains shrouded in myths and misconceptions, leading to a lack of understanding and support both socially and professionally.
The silence surrounding menopause not only perpetuates stigma but also exacerbates the challenges women face during this transition. For businesses, recognising and addressing menopause is not just a matter of employee well-being but also a strategic imperative. Women comprise a significant portion of the workforce, and their experiences and expertise are invaluable assets. By dispelling myths and fostering an open dialogue, we can create a more supportive environment that empowers women to navigate menopause with confidence and dignity, ultimately benefiting both individuals and organisations.
To open the conversation, ChapmanCG Director Fleur Daniell met with Mel Bligh Director at Thrive Leadership. Mel has been in the leadership and team development field for the last twenty-five years and has worked with many large organisations to develop and grow their people leaders. A large part of what she does today is to create menopause awareness in organisations. She brings this together with her knowledge of leadership development to build knowledge, understanding, empathy and the necessary skills to support colleagues going through menopause.
